HR Payroll Specialist

The Payroll Specialist at Sunny Hill processes and manages payroll, ensures compliance, tracks work hours, and handles wage adjustments. Requires payroll system experience, Microsoft Office skills, and strong customer service. A high school diploma is required; an associate degree and certifications are preferred. Must pass background and health screenings.

$50,000 – $55,ooo

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

(All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)

  • Prepare, process, and manage payroll for all departments at Sunny Hill under the supervision of the Human Resources Generalist.
  • Perform complex HR duties, including CMS Payroll Based Journaling (PBJ) and wage adjustments (COLA, step increases, longevity).
  • Ensure payroll compliance with County, Sunny Hill Nursing Home, collective bargaining agreements (CBA), and State, Federal, and Local policies.
  • Track employee work hours, manage time-off requests, leave tracking, and verify timesheets.
  • Accurately calculate and process employee pay, including overtime and adjustments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll and personal information.
  • Punctual, regular, and predictable attendance
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned or required.

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED

  • Various related office machines, including computer, printer, calculator, copier, fax and telephone.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Payroll systems (e.g., Kronos, ADP, Velocity).

EDUCATION AND PREVIOUS RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred).
  • General office experience
  • 1 year of payroll processing experience, including payroll systems (e.g., Kronos, ADP, Velocity).
  • SHRM, SPHR, or PHR certification preferred.
  • Must pass an IDPH background check.
  • Titer test for Hep B and Varicella required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • 1 year of payroll processing experience, including payroll systems (e.g., Kronos, ADP, Velocity).
  • Strong multitasking skills and ability to navigate difficult situations.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Successful completion of an in-basket payroll/Excel assessment.
  • Valid driver’s license and minimum liability insurance.
