HR Assistant

The Human Resources Assistant supports the HR department under the guidance of the HR Generalist. Key responsibilities include administrative and clerical tasks, maintaining employee records, supporting recruitment and onboarding for staff and volunteers, ensuring compliance with laws, handling employee relations, and acting as a liaison between HR, leadership, other departments, union, and employees at Sunny Hill Nursing Home. Confidentiality and support for HR initiatives are essential parts of the role.

Salary Range

$21.6346 – $24.0384 D.O.Q.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

(All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.)

  • Perform administrative and clerical support for the Human Resources department across various functions

  • Maintain employee records

  • Assist with employee relations

  • Support recruitment efforts

  • Assist with pre-employment processes and onboarding of new hires and volunteers

  • Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and regulations

  • Serve as a liaison between the Human Resources department, leadership, internal departments, union, and employees

  • Handle all Human Resources processes with confidentiality

  • Support HR initiatives and projects

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED

  • Various related office machines, including computer, printer, calculator, copier, fax and telephone.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.

EDUCATION AND PREVIOUS RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree in a related field required

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be accepted

  • Minimum of 1 year performing responsible administrative duties in Human Resources

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of HR principles, practices, and employment law

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management abilities

  • Effective verbal and written communication

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities

  • Ability to collaborate with various departments and staff levels

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License and minimum auto insurance (as required by law)

  • SHRM certification (PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) preferred
  • Must successfully pass:

    • IDPH background check

    • Titer test for Hepatitis B

    • Varicella and TB test (upon offer)
