Housekeeping / Laundry
Perform the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping/Laundry Department and assure resident safety in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility. Assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner and an adequate supply of linen is on hand at all times to meet the needs of the residents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Regular, punctual, and predictable attendance is required
- Assure that work/cleaning schedules are followed
- Report all accidents/incidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor no matter how minor they may be
- Report burned out light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room call lights on the maintenance log
- Attend all department and staff meetings, in-service education, on the job training programs, etc., as scheduled or directed
- Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments
- Participate and assist in department projects as directed
- Assure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner
- Keep areas free of hazardous objects such as protruding mop/broom handles, unnecessary equipment, supplies, etc.
- Keep areas clear of hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, excess laundry carts, baskets, supplies, equipment etc.
- Assure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored at all times as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, mealtimes, and end of the work day
- Keep supervisor informed of supply needs
- Use proper lifting procedures when assisting others in lifting heavy equipment and objects
- Maintain the confidentiality of resident’s information
- Treat residents with respect and properly care for their personal belongings
- Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks
- Follow established fire safety policies and procedures
- Coordinate daily services with nursing when performing routine cleaning assignments in resident living and/or recreational areas
- Assure that established infection control and universal precautions and practices are maintained
- Coordinate appropriate isolation procedures with nursing services
- Dispose of refuse daily in accordance with established sanitation procedures
- Use and dispose of PPE with established PPE procedures
- Clean work/supply carts, equipment etc. as needed or directed.
- Clean/polish furniture, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units etc., daily as needed
- Clean, wash, sanitize, and or polish bathroom fixtures. Assure watermarks are removed from fixtures.
- Clean windows/mirrors in resident’s rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms etc., throughout the facility
- Clean floors including sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, buffing, disinfecting, scrubbing, stripping, and refinishing. Assure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties
- Clean carpets to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting
- Clean walls and ceiling by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing
- Remove dirt, dust, grease film, etc, from surfaces by using proper cleaning/disinfection solutions
- Clean hallways, stairways, and elevators
- Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptable with plastic liners
- Clean vacant rooms as assigned using established procedures
- Perform cleaning procedures when a resident is discharged and/or transferred
- Discard infectious waste in appropriate containers
- Turn in all found articles/items to your supervisor
- Assure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift
- Collect, sort, and weigh soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., and place in appropriate containers or assigned areas
- Sort, count, and wash soiled linen, laundry, garments, etc, in accordance with established procedures and separate those items that require special stain removal and treatment
- Fold, count, stack, hang, and distribute clean laundry, linen, linen garments etc. to residents daily and or as instructed
- Assure that clean laundry, linen, garments etc. are distributed to designated areas as instructed
- Perform other duties in support of the department as assigned
EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or equivalent. Six months or more experience preferred. On the job training provided
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public
- Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices
- Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition
- Must be able to sit, stand, lift, and move intermittently throughout the workday
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents and personnel
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility
- Must be able to lift, push, pull and remove equipment, supplies etc., more than 50 pounds
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents
